Salty Service

"You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness?"
(Matthew 5:13)

"Salty Service, The Methodist Way, is the practice of fruitful congregations in
mission and service. It includes the projects, the efforts, and the work people
do to make a positive difference in the lives of others for the purposes of Christ,
whether or not they will ever be part of the community of faith."
excerpt from our Conference materials.

Jesus was clear that his followers are to be servants: Whoever wants to
become great among you must be your servant just as the Son of Man did
not come to be served, but to serve. (Matthew 20:26-28) Service flows naturally
and inescapably from the teachings and example of Jesus. Let me tell you why
you are here, says Jesus. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the
God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will
people taste godliness? (Matthew 5:13 The Message).

How salty was your service last week?  Did you volunteer to help in a soup
kitchen, tutor someone in English as a second language, help an elderly
with house repairs, take part in a community taskforce, spend some time
intentionally cultivating a relationship with an unchurched individual, or do
some service in the community? These are just several examples of
salty service.  If you have been a salty servant, please take a Salty Service
card from the pew and place it in the offering plate. This is done anonymously
...no names, please.
