Exercise Your Faith: Being Available

There is a belief that people exercise their faith from a position of strength and seldom make themselves available to God in the midst of their brokenness. Join us and get a different perspective on how God executes His plan through us, His creation, according to His will.

PRAYER CORNER

"I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none" (Ezek. 22:30).

What God wants to do on the earth, He will do through intercessors. When God wants to change the course events will take on their own, He searches out an intercessor on whose heart He can place His desires. (Jennifer Kennedy Dean)

Join us at our monthly Prayer Gathering held on the 1st Saturday of each month – the next one will be on July 5th at 9 a.m. in the Sanctuary.  To learn more about the Prayer Ministry, contact  Jackie Diamond.

FLORIDA & GENERAL CONFERENCE

LAY LEADER'S SUMMARY OF ANNUAL AND GENERAL CONFERENCES OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH: More than 1,600 lay and clergy members and guests gathered in late May at this year’s Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church under the theme “living the United Methodist Way” – a call to focus on our Wesleyan roots, reflecting the church’s Wesleyan heritage of disciple-making.  The theme is part of the broader denominational mission of “Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the world.” Our lay leader, Shields Clark, was the church’s lay delegate and Pastor Jerry Johnson was the ministerial delegate.  Also attending and participating in some aspects were Martha Clark, Mike Cummings, George Fox, Susan Jane Johnson, Elsie Olsen, Phyllis Rabb, Marilyn and Ed Swanson.  Pastor St.Clair Moore attended as well.

The 2008 General Conference, the church’s top lawmaking body, met April 23-May 2 in Fort Worth Texas.  Among the recommendations the 992 delegates from 50 countries approved were four areas of emphasis for the denomination based on several of the bishops’ vision pathways:  developing principled Christian leaders for the church and the world, starting new congregations and revitalizing existing ones, engaging in ministry with the poor, and fighting diseases of poverty, such as malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. General Conference delegates also approved a denominational budget of $642 million for the next four years. The next General Conference in 2012 will be held in Tampa.

New Church Development reported 17 new churches and missions have begun since 2005.  The goal for 2008 and 2009 is to launch 19 and 16 communities of faith, respectively.  Of the slightly more than $1 million members approved for new churches and missions, 75 percent is for ethnic congregations – Hispanic, Haitian, Korean and Chinese.

Members celebrated the 100th anniversaries of the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home and the denomination’s United Methodist Men’s ministry.

The conference statistician reported membership in the Florida Conference in 2007 was 310,711, a decline of 7,005 or 2 percent from 2006.  Average weekly worship attendance was 151,354, a decline of 3,827 or 2 percent.  Professions of faith totaled 6,897, a decline of 796 or 10 percent.

Conference members celebrated the 25th, 50th and 75th anniversaries of 30 clergypersons’ ordination as deacon and the retirement of 26 clergy, including Pastor Jerry.  A total of 46 people were licensed, commissioned, ordained and had their orders recognized.

ETCETERA . . .

Service Names Have Changed: You may have already noticed! Starting this week, TTUMC will be referring to the 9:30 a.m. service as "Contemporary" rather than "Journey" and to the 11:00 a.m. service as "Traditional" rather than "Foundation." The new names will communicate the nature of each service more clearly, especially to those who are considering worshipping with us.

Church Directories: Directories are available in the church office; a limited number will be on hand at the Connection Center on Sundays. Everyone who was photographed or submitted a picture for he directory receives a complimentary copy (one per family). Others may purchase directories for $2 each (to benefit the TTUMC children's ministry). If you are unable to pick yours up on Sunday, please stop by the office Monday - Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Message Audio, Podcast Available. Do you want to hear a message again or direct it to someone else's attention? Go to the TTUMC home page and click the Listen Now link (or go directly to ttumc.net/onlinemedia). You can choose to listen on your computer or you can download the message in MP3 format for your iPod or to burn a CD. Or click the new "Get the MessageCast" link to subscribe to the podcast and receive all messages automatically.

Celebrate the Glory of God: Floral arrangements are a way to celebrate the beauty of God's creation during worship, as well as special people or events in our lives. Flowers are always dedicated to the glory of God first and foremost, and then in honor of, memory of, of thanksgiving for a person or occasion. The church is decorated on Sundays only when arrangements have been ordered. If you would like to give a flower donation, stop by the information table in the narthex and look over the 2008 calendar. Arrangements are $25 each; you may take them home with you after the service, or leave them to be delivered to our shut-ins. Envelopes are provided for your payment (which is kindly appreciated when you place your order).
